As part of its Farm to Fork Strategy and Beating Cancer Plan, the European Commission is currently discussing the introduction of a common European front-of-pack nutrition labelling scheme. On 16 March 2021, more than 270 renowned European scientists published a call in support of the Nutri-Score, a label already in use in several EU Member States, widely considered to be an effective way to guide consumers towards healthier choices. However, the Nutri-Score also faces opposition on various grounds from a number of European lawmakers, stakeholders and Member States. What is the contribution of front-of-pack nutrition labels to healthier diets? How does the Nutri-Score perform in this regard? What should be the next steps for the European Commission? These are the questions that will be discussed in this ELF event.
