In Autumn 2020, Europe faced a series of terrorist attacks that have shown the unreliability of deradicalisation programmes and a systemic failure of the counterterrorism policy. Both Vienna and Dresden attackers had managed to deceive the workers of deradicalisation programmes and had been released from jail a few days before the attacks.

This publication aims to identify and critically analyse the causes of these recent attacks in Europe. This paper also offers a set of recommendations, all based on a proactive approach towards combatting terrorism.
