In a sense, populism is almost as old as politics. However, a new kind of a regenerated populist trend is sweeping Europe. Populist movements are gaining momentum all around the continent, posing a significant threat to freedom and the rule of law. Hence, it is the primary task for defenders of liberty, peace, and prosperity to face the challenge and offer resistance. Therefore, this event will bring together prominent liberal opinion leaders and communicators from major European hubs. Together, they will particularly evaluate the rising populist sentiment in Europe with its narratives and common roots and share their best practices and know-how on how to become able to better equip themselves with a more coordinated and consolidated liberal strategy to address populist narratives. Thereby, the discussion will also delineate and compare the framing and communication strategies of different populist movements and their appeal to the masses. Participants will work on questions like “What concerns does the populist message respond to?”, “Does populism represent a response to globalisation?” or “What are the implications of rising populism for the rule-based liberal international order?” This discussion is aimed to be the starting point for further teamwork in the fight against the populist challenge.
