Promoting the idea of democratic citizenship and democratic values through education is considered as a process to foster responsible and active citizenship in communities so that citizens understand their rights and duties. As a result, they are able to fully participate in the decision-making processes in their respective society and to challenge state interventions into individual freedoms.  Building active citizenship is an important element in order to establish a substantive democracy.  We believe in the importance of education for creating democratic citizens and for having an influence on future generations in order to enable them to make a difference. Thus, with this event, we aim to address the current challenges and positive developments in the Turkish education system and to discuss best practices of promoting responsible democratic citizenship through education with the experts from Europe.
