Centro Einaudi

The Centro di Ricerca e Documentazione Luigi Einaudi is an independent non-profit research institute based in Torino. The Centro Einaudi was founded in 1963 and is entitled to the second President of the Italian Republic, a liberal statesman and economist.

The Centro’Einaudi’s mission is to conduct independent research at the local, national and international level; elaborate resolutions and provide innovative recommendations for policy makers responding to the principles of modern liberalism in terms of purposes and implementation method; disseminate and discuss the results of the research and the proposed solutions via specific publications, seminars and conferences.

The Centro’s research agenda include political economy, social politics and welfare, liberal theory, comparative public policy, Italian policies and reforms, regional development, bioethics and it aims to be a reference in the Italian cultural panorama both on the theoretic and on the empirical level.

Among the longstanding activities of the Centro Einaudi:- the Report on Global Economy and Italy, which since 1996 has been analysing global issues on a yearly base, looking at economic trends, production sectors, global politics from an Italian perspective;

– the Report on Savings and Financial Choices of the Italians, which since 1982 has been analysing the motivations, goals and choices concerning the savings of Italian families;
– the Report of the Observatory on “Second Welfare” in Italy, a research project started in 2011 with a specific focus on the non-public actors that increasingly play a role in the welfare arena;
– the “Giorgio Rota” Report on Turin, which every year since 2000 analyses different aspects of the city and its surroundings – economy, demographics, culture, energy, education system, urban mobility transformation and security, healthcare system, environment, in comparison with other Italian and European cities;
– the Economic Freedom of the World Index, a project coordinated by the Fraser Institute in Vancouver of which the Centro Einaudi has been the official Italian partner since 1997, also contributing to the compilation of the European edition and developing an Italian edition.

Biblioteca della Libertà is the Centro’s quarterly journal. Peer-reviewed, founded in 1964, it is one of the main Italian publications on political theory, political science and legal theory. Its scientific value has been acknowledged by the SISP (Italian Political Science Association) and ANVUR (National Agency for the evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes) for three subject areas: law, economics and statistics, political and social science.
