Priorities, Attitudes, and Policy Options for Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage

Parties to the Paris Agreement have agreed to pursue actions to limit global warming to 1.5 °C. With a present warming of about 1.0 °C and persistently rising global greenhouse gas emissions, the changes of meeting the goal looks bleaker by the day. The UN climate negotiators therefore invited the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) to provide a special report on the impacts of global warming of 1.5 °C levels and related emission pathways. At this event, the Swedish Focal Point for IPCC, professor Markku Rummukainen, will present the result of IPCC’s undertaking. Together with leading European experts and climate frontrunners, Rummukainen will discuss implications of the results for European and Swedish climate politics. Special attention will be devoted to the mammoth amounts of future negative emissions required for meeting the 1.5 °C goal, suggested by the climate scenarios, and the challenges that the European politics have to face for realizing this large scale atmospheric ‘vacuum cleaning’ of carbon dioxide
