It is a widely accepted view that the economic shock triggered by COVID-19 is on par with the economic shock caused by World War II. When the pandemic finally passes, how will the EU rebuild itself? Will the EU be able to finance Europe’s economic reconstruction without requesting money from national governments?
Earlier this month, MEPs Luis Garicano and Guy Verhofstadt put pen to paper to argue that the EU can. In their non-paper ‘Toward a European Reconstruction’, published on 17 April 2020, they outline their proposal for issuing perpetual debt. Tune into this Zoom Webinar for a conversation with Luis Garicano and Guy Verhofstadt, moderated by DER SPIEGEL’s Peter Müller.
