The Centre for Liberal Studies – Markos Dragoumis is pleased to invite you on Wednesday, November 25 2020, from 19:00 to 20:30, to a panel discussion, organized by ELF, titled “EU Accession and Economic Freedom: Do EU market reforms and policies foster economic freedom?” The event will be online, via Zoom.
The access to European Union and the status of EU membership require significant reforms in order for a country to align with the Union’s overall institutional framework and values. However, the recent financial and sovereign debt crises have called into question the European Union’s commitment to economic freedom. This political debate must be informed by facts, and the current book provides empirical evidence of a link between the EU accession process and the aim of promoting economic freedom.
Some key questions that are to be discussed are: Is the accession to the European Union a reforming period linked to more economic freedom? Which of the current EU policies foster economic freedom? Do we identify EU economic policies with a detrimental effect to economic freedom? Is regional divergence an obstacle to the overall integration policy and economic freedom?
