This project was motivated by the observation that many of Europe’s long-term challenges are connected to the supply of energy. Events in Ukraine, the European Union’s (EU) long-term climate targets, and the findings and use of shale-gas in the US all highlight the need for a thoroughly considered energy policy for Europe. During 2015, the European Liberal Forum and its members Fores (Sweden), Neos-lab (Austria) and Friedrich Naumann Foundation Sofia (Bulgaria) organized three workshops to discuss Europe’s Energy Future. This publication is summarizing these workshops. It also contain four chapters covering the concept of energy security and providing case studies from Austria, Bulgaria and Sweden.
